Butter chicken, also known as murgh makhani, is a popular Indian dish that is loved by people all over the world. It is a rich and creamy curry made with succulent pieces of chicken cooked in a tomato-based sauce, with a generous amount of butter and cream. This dish is perfect for those who love the combination of spicy and creamy flavors. In this blog, we will be sharing a step-by-step recipe for making butter chicken, along with some special tips to make it even better.
Ingredients:
- 500g boneless chicken (cut into small pieces)
- 1 cup yogurt
- 1 tbsp ginger paste
- 1 tbsp garlic paste
- 1 tsp turmeric powder
- 1 tsp red chili powder
- 1 tsp coriander powder
- 1 tsp cumin powder
- Salt (as per taste)
- 2 tbsp butter
- 2 tbsp oil
- 2 cups tomato puree
- 1 cup cream
- 1 tsp garam masala
- Fresh coriander (chopped)
Step 1: Marinate the chicken In a bowl, mix the yogurt, ginger paste, garlic paste, turmeric powder, red chili powder, coriander powder, cumin powder, and salt. Add the chicken pieces to this mixture and coat them well with the marinade. Cover the bowl and let it marinate in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour.
Step 2: Cook the chicken Heat the butter and oil in a pan. Add the marinated chicken and cook on high heat for 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally. Lower the heat and let it cook for another 10-15 minutes or until the chicken is cooked through.
Step 3: Prepare the sauce In another pan, heat some butter and add the tomato puree. Cook on medium heat for 5-6 minutes or until the tomato puree thickens. Add the cream and cook for another 2-3 minutes.
Step 4: Combine the chicken and sauce Add the cooked chicken to the tomato sauce and mix well. Add garam masala and fresh coriander, and stir. Let it simmer for another 5-6 minutes on low heat.
Step 5: Serve and enjoy! Butter chicken is best enjoyed with naan, roti or steamed rice. Serve it hot and garnish with fresh coriander leaves.
Tips:
- If you want a smoky flavor, you can grill the chicken instead of cooking it in a pan.
- Use fresh tomato puree instead of canned ones for a better taste.
- You can adjust the amount of red chili powder as per your taste preference.
- To make it more creamy, add more cream or a tablespoon of cashew paste.
- Always use boneless chicken for this recipe, as it cooks faster and tastes better.
- Marinate the chicken for at least an hour to ensure it's tender and flavorful.
In conclusion, butter chicken is a delicious and easy-to-make dish that is loved by people of all ages.
